The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has authorised the following health claims for sugar substitutes (xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol, laltitol, lactitol, isomalt, erythritol, sucralose and polydextrose):
The consumption of foods/drinks that contain one of the above-mentioned sugar substitutes instead of sugar causes the blood sugar level to rise less sharply after their consumption than when consuming foods/drinks containing sugar
Consuming foods/drinks that contain one of the above-mentioned sugar substitutes instead of sugar helps to maintain tooth mineralisation
